Rainbow 🌈 Faith

Pandemic-days,
Dark times,
Battling for survival,
Awaiting revival
In time of drought;
Scorching winds
Scourge the earth –
Fear and panic
The new narcotic,
And yet,
And yet –
Hope persists,
Rainbow faith
Shining manifest
Into brokenness,
A kaleidoscope
Of hopefulness,
Myriad colours
Reflecting absolute love,
Inextinguishable
In the darkness
Because our God walks with us,
Always.

Duracell Bunny

It’s my Duracell bunny’s
Birthday today
And physically
He’s doing OK –
He’s still got his hair
Though it’s thinning on top,
His teeth’s his own,
His energy’s high
And the cataract was just the one eye,
The battery’s running
As good as new
And while he’d never
Admit to needing a rest
It is a test
To stay awake before bed,
But then again
He’s up with the lark
And still embarks
On a project a day
Because, well, that’s his way!
He’s not doing so bad
This man of mine
And today he’s SIXTY
Which I can’t quite believe
But I’m pleased
To say after 34 years
Of married life
He couldn’t have found
A better wife!

Let’s raise a glass
Because life’s been good –

Happy Birthday dear bunny,
Hope you find my ode funny!

Easter Praise

Praises sing
To Christ my King,
Hallelujah, You’re alive!

Death holds no fears,
Your promises
Hold fast and eternally last
Beyond our time or age,
Bound only by faith
And belief in me
As someone who could be.
You’ve shown the way
To beyond today
To more than we can see,
Your love for me,
Unconditionally,
Stretches every day,
Reminding me
You died for me,
You live for me to be.

Pharisee Fall Guy

0F41F22C-C2E7-4B37-A443-1F6352015C0E
Trumped up trial
For the King of Kings,
Guilty by presence
Whilst presenced with man;
Jesus, my minuteman.
No deceit within,
Yet tried by lies,
Pronounced guilty,
You walked to slaughter
To make me your daughter.

You took all the bad
To make today good;
Pharisee fall guy
Faced down the cross,
Stretched by nails,
Crowned by thorns,
Mocked and jeered,
Scourged and scorned,
Betrayed by treason,
Dignified, beyond all reason.

Crude nails held fast,
Powerful powerlessness
Displayed to the last.
You drowned in plain sight
Turning day into night,
The cross of shame
Shamed the men of God
As You paved the way
To turn death into life;
Jesus, my sacrifice.

Fish & Chips

IMG_0255
I’d bring you flowers,
If I could,
But as I can’t –
I’ll fly you to the moon and back
For fish and chips for tea,
With white bread and real butter –
Naturally!
Anything, to see your face
Smiling at me,
Reassuringly;
But it cannot be.
So I’ll cherish your memories
Tightly within me,
Conjure up your face internally
To connect super-humanly
On Mother’s Day
Just to say,
Thank you for loving me.

Look Forward

Look forward
Not back –
Stop building walls,
Grab life by the balls,
Dive in and float
While you figure out
What’s next,
Adapting your stroke
To the boulders you meet,
Glide over them with disdain
Allowing the pain
To leave you
Immune to defeat.
Set your course
Avoiding those
Who pull you down,
Grind you into the ground,
Travel on,
Do all the things
You planned to do,
Be you.
Joy and happiness
Are a witness
To living life
Gloriously fulfilled.
This is my plea
For 2020:
Look forward,
Not back,
May the waterfalls
Inspire you,
To swim without fear,
Enjoy your year.

Reunion

DE137810-8135-4276-B051-D097FE515C26
Clouds scudding across
Darkening skies:
Souls released from heaven
Flying over those below.
Interaction is forbidden
But looking is fine –
So they don’t forget
And will know us when we meet
In a next-world street.

Clouds merges and reform:
A reminiscence rain-cloud
Breaking your thoughts
And you see someone
You’ve loved and lost,
The shape of a nose,
A cheeky smile,
A familiar glint in the eyes,
Lights up the skies.

Clouds cannot stay
And nor can souls,
Quickly merging
Into unknown abstracts –
Blown by the winds,
Towed along by
Angel-hosts;
All-age humans
Awaiting reunion.

Thirty Years

Time has flown
Since I lay awake
The night before your birth
Wondering if you were a boy or a girl
And decided I didn’t care
As long as you were there.
Fast forward thirty years,
My baby girl has grown
Into a self-confident
Fully qualified teacher,
Joining the family tradition
But doing it your own way
Monday to Friday.
Some things don’t change,
You still come home
Eager to share your day,
Who said what and when and why
And did I know the Visigoths
Wore cloaks fastened with bone –
At least I’ll never be alone!
Happy 30th birthday
Darling girl of mine,
Much lies ahead
Of this I’m assured –
Take it all in your stride
With a smile on your face
Living your life
In God’s good grace.

Born Again Knees

Have spent a few weeks helping do up the Manse for our new minister – here’s an update:

My once proud nails
Are tattered and torn
My knees awaiting to be reborn,
While batwing arms
Are nicely toned
From hours of painting
And rubbing down,
My hip is hurting
From funny positions on ladder
And ground.

The bath and the shower
Both work fine,
Sink and toilet are now aligned,
So you won’t have to plunge
Downstairs in the night.
The bath taps run hot and cold
But please remember left from right –
‘Cos, blue and red
Have been transposed,
It’s just a plumbing oversight!

The pan drawers work
The electrics are safe,
All bulbs replaced,
All lives wire now benign!
No holes in the ceiling
Or in the floors,
No wallpaper’s peeling,
All rooms have doors,
The work’s moved on
But my knees are aching!

There’s more to do
I can’t deny
More rooms to prettify,
But brush and paint and
Volunteer spirit
Working together
Will help to blitz it.
Pity about my swollen knees
Pray for them,
I beg you please!
