Driving through town,
Doors locked,
Late at night;
Protection or exclusion?
Is the intention to shut out the world
So it no longer exists?

Feeling safe,
In our own bubble,
In our nice, safe life;
Preservation or isolation?
Are we so wrapped up in our lives
That we give others short shrift?

Slow down, look around,
Ground yourself,
Make friends in the queue,
We are called to love,
Don’t sit on the shelf –
Involve yourself.
Go serve a meal, buy someone a drink,
Think, don’t drive on by.

A Mini Affair

Driving to work in a one litre car
Has its limitations,
Dying to see my Mini tomorrow
As I’m almost out of patience.
I’ve grinned and I’ve borne it,
I’ve sat back and smiled,
I’ve been overtaken mile after mile.
I’m grateful for the loan of the Alto
But it’s boring to paddle the shallows
When at heart I’m really a shark!
I yearn for the deep to swim really fast
To attack instead of defend,
Use the thrill of the chase,
To speed round the bends –
Hope my Mini affair never ends.
