Those loved and lost,
Each passing year,
Engraved in our hearts; never apart.

Love requires time:
Streams fed by fresh water,
Complicated by whirlpools
Or unexpected waterfalls
Pounding us on rocks of life,
Giving strife.

Love surrounds us
Every which way,
So when love is taken away
We grieve, lament our loss,
Lament the love lost.
Life without love is empty,
To love, inevitably is to lose,
Which may confuse but can you choose
To walk life’s path alone?

As the year draws to a close,
Those who’ve loved you,
Who live in your heart,
Never far away
And live to love another day.
